She's a life-long student of anatomy and has a close relationship with art history, in particular, the Renaissance masters. Mimi Gross, daughter of modernist sculptor Chaim Gross, has been actively engaged in the New York and international art world since she was a child. Her forceful creative drive and active studio process has generated innumerable works across all disciplines. The themes and imagery in her work range from Circus-spectacle to intimate portraiture to pressing current events.

Roden Crater Gear

The awesome things you find here at the Mattress Factory. Bechtler foundation and specifically developed for Hotel Castell in Zuoz. Häusler Contemporary negotiated and managed the project.
In this video, Gianfranco Schiavano of Häusler Contemporary talks about the characteristics of the project (in German language). James Turrell’s works for the “Skyspace” focus on the interaction between architectural internal space and natural external space by bringing the sky into the opening in the ceiling. In principle, the artist of Skyspace Piz Uter is concerned with “structural cuts” with openings completely above the line of the horizon and cut into the ceiling and roof. The impressive change in the sky and its colors can be appreciated during the transition from day to night.
James Turrell’s Skyspace Piz Uter won an honorary award in the Daylight-Award competition of Velux Stiftung. The “Skyspace Piz Uter” of James Turrell is considered by the jury as the most poetic project. “The artwork shows the essence of light in a building in an unrivalled consequence.” On the 14th January 2010, the Velux Foundation presented the second Daylight-Award in the S AM Swiss Architecture Museum in Basel. The presentation was realized in collaboration with the Department of Architecture of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (DARDEN ETH), Zürich and the S AM Swiss Architecture Museum. Winner of the Daylight-Award 2010 is the Therme Vals of Peter Zumthor in Vals, Switzerland. Two honorary awards go to James Turrell for his Skyspace Piz Uter in Zuoz and to Isa Stürm Urs Wolf Architects for the Kunst(Zeug)Haus in Rapperswil, both in Switzerland. An additional honorary award goes to Prof. Anna Wirz-Justice. The Daylight-Award aims to encourage developers, planners and specialists to systematically use daylight in order to increase quality of life and energy efficiency. VernissageTV realized three short documentaries for Velux Stiftung about the awarded works. The videos are already available at the website of Velux Stiftung.
James Turrell: Skyspace Piz Uter, Zuoz, Switzerland.

KiKi and the Artists of Montparnasse

Tuesday, December 16, 2008
1:30 p.m.
Paris Portraits Afternoon Art Lecture and Tea
Kiki and the Artists at Montparnasse

Julie Martin, co-author with Bill Klüver of Kiki’s Paris: Artists and Lovers 1900-1930, presents an illustrated lecture based on her book. The work is inspired by the time study work of Frederick Winslow Taylor and the motion study work of Frank and Lillian Gilbreth dating from the American industrial revolution in the late 19th century.

"Cathedral" was filmed in The Eaton Center shopping mall in Toronto, Canada during the Christmas holidays in 2006. Christmas shoppers are shown during “rush hour” - in constant motion, dozens of escalators and elevators serving as arteries carrying them from one purchase opportunity to the next.
Shoppers circulate from store to store where familiar brands act as signposts in an otherwise disorienting landscape.

Mega malls have become retail cities; self-contained environments offering the consumer a complete lifestyle experience - sharing a common language regardless of their geographic location. Marco Brambilla is represented by Christopher Grimes Gallery.

Special thanks to Soho Mews for generously donating the space to Art Production Fund.

Brooklyn Block Party

<img style="display:block; On view at the Heimbold Visual Art Center’s Barbara Walters Gallery, it is free and open to the Public. For more information please call 914-395- 2355 or e-mail cstayrook@slc.edu.

Meridith Pingree’s exhibition is a part of the on-going emerging artists series held during the 2007-2008 academic year. Members of the college’s visual arts and visual culture faculty in conjunction with their students select each artist in the series.

Squishy Geometry features kinetic sculptures and related drawings by Meridith Pingree. The artist physically tracks human behavior and traffic patterns utilizing quasi-scientific, homespun, reactive sculptures. Sensors pick up on people's energy and movement throughout the gallery; her work exists as amplifications of this subtle energy, creating unconventional, complex portraits of people and spaces. Sourcing dreams, magic, plant life, robotics, geometry, and textile design, she amalgamates these into amoebic creatures.

The Yellow Star hanging central in the gallery feeds off ambient energy. The transparent ring mutates its shape, expanding, and contracting in slow jarring movements using motion sensors coupled with small motors. Within other works, kinetic links of a centipede-like creature respond individually to create a live mutating curve; toys, car parts, zipper tape, and plastic spider rings connect with their own rhythm into geometric textiles making up the bodies of the microbe-like critters. The two, three, and four-dimensional pieces exist together, not unlike a more typical eco-system. The sculptures can see themselves. Something like an ice crystal or a virus, they move and grow falling into complex patterns of movement responding to each other, questioning social interaction, meanings of time, and what it is when we consider something to be alive.
